Goodbye Southwyck Mall
July 10, 2008 – 7:58 pmWe managed to get to Soutwyck mall on its last day of being open to the public.
For those of you that aren’t from Toledo here’s a quick backstory.
Southwyck mall was great…about 10 years ago and quickly turned into the armpit of malls.
Nonetheless, everyone who lives in toledo has one memory of shopping in this place…
Won’t you remember the good ol’ days with me?
Here’s my wifey jess, saddened that these golden horses of valor will never move again…

A lot of you will remember this being the most bizarre food court that doesn’t actually lay in the center of the mall, but tucked away in some random scary corner of the mall…nothing was opened…

This is one sad family…and possibly a slightly confused father-in-law…

My most vivid memory of Southwyck is actually from the fountain in the picture above. I remember jumping right into this fountain and splashing playfully without a care in the world!
….I was 17…the cops chased me…
Got any Southwyck memories?

there was a really cool clothes store right next to the “cavern”. I used to love that place. I was working at appliance center, and as I got to work, in my pretty white skort, someone had the mercy to tell me that I had sat on a couple of mayflies. (I lived in the point.) So I blasted over there, ran in, bought the same white skort. The women in there thought it was hilarious. Would you buy a refrigerator from a woman with a mashed mayfly butt? NO!

I remember skateboarding in the mall with a friend…that didn’t last very long. Seems they frowned on that kind of activity. “The Man” is always out to riun a good time!

While you youngsters were playing in the pond and skateboarding, I was working at Casual Corner clothing store during the day and Connie Shoes at night. (I was on a temporary, self imposed, break from college) Lot’s of good people watching in the evening and right across from that marry-go-round. I never made any money but I had great clothes and shoes!

Oh man, does anyone remember Old Towne?? It was like an arcade, it was AWESOME. They even had their own gold coins to use. I’m almost positive it was located in there somewhere about 25-30 years ago. OMG I’m old…

One of mine was a little over 4 years ago…I took Jess there to get her hair done for her wedding. She got done before me and was going to go to ‘Things Remembered’ to pick up the wine goblet for the Communion in the wedding. As she was leaving, the girl who was working on my hair said “That’s so cool–she doesn’t seem nervous at all!” My reply–”Oh yea–look at her shoes when she walks by the window!” Jess had put on two different shoes when she left the house!

So, first I have to comment on how hilarious it is that you went there on the last day AND took pictures!
When we were younger, each year my Grandma would take my sister and I to a movie at Southwyck. We would always go to Bulk Foods first and get bags of candy to stuff in her purse, so we didn’t have to pay the movie theater price on candy!
We thought we were tough stuff.

I forgot about the movie theater! Definitely an easy theater to do a double feature for the price of one…
…you know…because of coupons…

My grandparents used to take me there when I was little and we rode on the carousel tons of times. . .and that’s about all I can remember! And I laughed out loud at the pictures of you guys!

In response to Christy’s message, Yes, I remember Old Towne. It was extremely cool! It was in the whole front entrance as you walked in and had cobble stone floor with the snack counter in the middle. The lighting was perfect for the old games they had and just the sound of pacman, donkey kong and the pinball machines was sweet music to a kids ears!
Thanks for the memory!!
